Golding's 2020-21 Reopening Plan

Golding Middle School will operate in full compliance with the district’s reopening plan.  Listed below are school-specific details on the school’s schedule, social and emotional well-being programs, and school activities.

School Schedule

  • Golding Middle School will offer 100% onsite instruction every day that school is in session.

  • The building will operate on a shortened instructional schedule that is 6 hours in length.

  • Students who are physically present will be divided into small cohorts of students no larger than 15 students.

  • Golding Middle School’s available spaces will be used creatively in order to accommodate the total number of cohorts.

  • Masks and social distancing will be required all day

  • Students will be given mask breaks throughout the day

  • Instruction will focus on the four core subjects of science, ELA, math, and social studies.

  • We are still assessing the feasibility of providing physical education and performing arts instruction to students given enhanced social distancing requirements for those activities.

  • Encore classes (PE, music, art, band, ect.) will be offered through a remote learning platform if it is deemed that Golding Middle School will be unable to safely provide in person instruction.

  • Breakfast and lunch will take place in the students’ cohorted room.

  • Cohorts of students will be working in one classroom throughout the day while teachers and other supervisory staff will move to the different classrooms throughout the day.

Social and Emotional Well-Being

We recognize that the social emotional well-being of our students and staff during these challenging times is critically important.  To help support the social emotional well being of everyone at Golding Middle School we will be utilizing the following supports:

  1. Students will spend the beginning part of their day in an advisory/homeroom period. This advisory/homeroom time will be spent with their first period teacher and will serve as a time for the teacher to check in on the students, take a pulse on the room, and direct the students to additional support if needed.

  2. Golding Middle Schools guidance counseling staff and mental health counselors will support children and adults so that they better understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

  3. The building principal and guidance and counseling staff will update building-level comprehensive school counseling plans to meet current needs.

  4. The building principal and dean of students will engage a “school climate team” to assess and support student and staff emotional health in each of our four buildings.

  5. The Golding Middle School guidance and counseling office will provide resources and referrals to address mental health, behavioral, and emotional support services and programs.

  6. Golding Middle School will provide PD opportunities to the faculty and staff on how best to support students’ social and emotional well-being.

Extracurricular Activities

To the extent possible we will be offering extracurricular activities virtually.  These offerings may include but are not limited to history club, running club, WEB mentoring, gamer’s guild, and any other activities that can be conducted virtually.  We are currently assessing what extracurricular activities can be offered virtually.
